Although summer does not officially start until next week, the heat has settled over our country a few weeks ago, with the intention to stay for many days. And nights!
There are plenty of options to enjoy the almost 600 kilometres of coastline during summertime. And we do not pretend to make a list with every beach bar available and its services (although if you are willing to take a tour, you can share your experience with us ). Our intention is solely to awake your desire to discover the latest water activities, to make you hungry of taste the exquisite seafood gastronomy in one of the exclusive chiringuitos(beach bars), to tempt you with the best night entertainment scheduled all over the country … to make you enjoy summer!!
Let’s start with the different water activities proposals. Almost each coastal town in Catalunya has its own nautical club, including a wide range of activities offering, not only the traditional catamaran routes, and the chance to take a sailing course, suitable for all ages and levels; but also the latest trends in water sports such as paddle surf, wakeboard or parasailing, some of them recommended only to the bravest. The Water Sports Center in Calella (Costa de Maresme – Barcelona) is one of the clearest examples of the varied offer of recreational activities on the Catalan beaches, with activities designed to be enjoyed for one person at a time, as parasailing, or to enjoy with a group of friends, as for example the flyfish. But this is not your only option. Some other nautical clubs, such as the Estació Nàutica de Sant Carles de la Ràpita (Costa Daurada) offers also a wide variety of traditional and modern water activities, as well the chance to get a nautical qualification (diving, sailing and motor board). Thanks to its strategic location in one of the largest natural harbours in Europe, the “Badia dels Alfacs” the resort also offers several guided tours including some kind of tasting. Of the recommended tours is the route along the “Badia” which includes not only an incredible landscape panoramic of the “Salines de la Trinitat” and “la Reseva Natural de la Punta de la Banya”, but also a visit to the mussel and oyster beds with the chance to enjoy a taste and a glass of cava.
Continuing with the water activities, we can find in Barcelona the Pukas Surf Eskola Barcelona. Located in the “Playa de la Barceloneta”, they offer a rental service of everything needed (boards, flippers, neoprene …) to suit all levels of experience; but also surf, stand up paddle and even Ocean Pilates lessons. We have yet to try Pilates over a surfboard, but we will surely join one of their courses this summer.
Finally, if you are among the bravest, in need to burn some adrenaline to make the most of the summertime, we recommend you to visit the Malamar Wakepark de Montgat (Costa Barcelona). There are several wakeparks all over the Catalan coast, so you can go to the closest to your home or your holiday destination. We have discovered this winter (yes, it is open all year round) the one in Montgat and we will for sure repeat the experience this summer. The Malamar is a sports club where you can practice different aquatic activities, like any other sports club. What makes it special is the artificial 200 meter lake, doted with a dragline system where you can enjoy wakeboard and wakeskate with 6 jump modules. Don’t you know what we are talking about? Check their webiste to see what you are missing!
If you are already hungry, after so many activities, you will find all along the Catalan coastline thousands of bars, restaurants, “chiringuitos”, willing to offer the best and freshest sea products. Our recommendations go all along the coast, looking for reliable places where quality is guaranteed. Traditional chiringuitos such as “La Guingueta de l’Escribà” (Barcelona), open since 1992; offering ecologic cuisine, such as “Lasal del Varador” (Mataró); or avant garde, such as the “Toc al Mar” (Begur), offering the best wild seafood cooked in an holm-oak wood fire; are a guarantee by the quality of its products and the excellence in its service.
Remember that, in many “chiringuitos” you will also find a lively nightlife, with several activities scheduled: monologues, concerts, thematic nights, … Enjoy the refreshing nights with thousands of shows from the beachfront.
But if you are a city dweller and prefer to spend your summer nights somewhere within the city, from this weekend and until the end of September, you can enjoy the Magic nights in la Casa Batlló, which includes music, drinks and live music.
And remember, these are just some of our recommendations. You can send us your proposals and we will publish them on the blog.
