The Obrador Xisqueta was born in 2008 as a non-profit association, with the aim to raise the value of the wool of the sheep Xisqueta, a local breed of sheep . The main activity of this association is to buy the wool of these animals for an appropriate price, to allow the shepherds to continue doing their job, covering the expenses to shear the animals. Thanks to their labor, up to 25 families can continue taking care of this breed of sheep called Xisqueta, considered endangered of extinction.
But this is not the only activity of this association. Besides buying wool to the local shepherds, and in collaboration with the Projecte Grípia, they work to promote farming, specially among young people, offering support to the school of farming, counsel, increasing awareness, … The association also offers professional training to those artisans interested in working with wool.
And what can we do to contribute to the task of this association? There are plenty of different options. They offer workshops and classes for everyone: individuals, schools, civic centers, … We can learn to work with wool to get incredible accessories, complements, … In their on-line store we can find skeins of wool, in natural colours or tinted using natural products; but also accessories to work wool, kits for beginners, jewellery and decorative elements made of wool.
But there is more. The association has a caravan that moves around Catalunya offering a huge variety of workshops, thanks to the artisans of the association.
