Unfortunately, many of us have eventually used a barbarism. For those of you who didn’t really know its meaning, it’s called a barbarism when a a word or expression from a language is incorrectly used while speaking another language. It may not be common in English, but all other languages borrow words from English, as a mean to describe something new or as a more modern way to talk about something, instead of using any other old fashioned word. In Catalan, besides borrowing words from English (such as e-mail, for example, instead of correu electrònic), people tend to incorrectly use words from Spanish, as it is what they have learned, instead of using the more appropriate Catalan word.
And this is not only among young people, but older generations, who have had a different and poor education due to the political situation existing when they were young, have always misuse words, not knowing for a better word to say what they wanted to say, and now, when most of them are retired it is not easy to change that habit.
