Our first recommendation for this literary week, is a historic route on Barcelona. Some of you may know by heart the main places of Barcelona. The city centre, the Gothic quarter, the commercial areas, … are some of the best known places in the city, for residents but also for tourists. But, have you ever stopped to watch the buildings and look up to discover its secrets?
Our recommendation for today, the “The Masonic Barcelona“, focus its attention to discover some of the secrets hidden to the naked eyed in some historic buildings. With the aim to let everyone know and better understand the masons in Barcelona, our guide, Alexandre, lead us around some of the best spots to find the main mason remains, hidden, unnoticeable, but also clearly visible; that have survived in Barcelona until our days.
Distinguished figures of the Catalan history have been linked with the masonry: politicians, lawyers, pedagogues, … and there are many icons visible in Barcelona, city that lived the golden age of this organization from late nineteenth century until early twentieth century.
Do you know which are the most used symbols for the masons?
Do you know which streets of the city are named after distinguished masons?
Do you know how and why some of the icons that can be seen today where hidden?
You can take this route on your own, following the steps of a complete guidebook published by the City hall, but we recommend you to try and find a day in your agenda, and check the calendar of the Literat Tours company, and let Alexandre guide you around Barcelona. He will explain you each one of the symbols and each one of the details that you will find along the route, and he will answer each one of your questions.
