We LOVE books!! And not only books, bookshops are special places where time goes by without noticing, while searching that special book you are after or just looking for a title to catch your attention or strolling around being guided by your instinct until you find out that special unknown book that will end up being unforgettable.

And being Sant Jordi (when we all buy books & flowers as a gift for our beloved ones), we want to share with you some of the best bookshops in Barcelona.

The best way to start our recommendations is with the best place where to buy travel guides and other related stuff, such as maps, background information about the country you are planning to visit, even comics related to your trip and destination. With over 60.000 references, Altaïr is the perfect bookshop where to find any book you are looking for, no matter the place in the world you are interested in.

The visit to the store includes a board where to find a trip mate to share expenses, or hang your own ad to share your own experience. Centrally located (Gran Vía, 616 – near Rambla Catalunya), with an amazing atmosphere that will seduce you once inside and very attentive and helpful staff.

If you have read the same book to your child too many times and you are looking for new adventures to share together, we have several recommendations for you both. Our first recommendation, is Al·lots. Centrally located in Consell de Cent 266 (near the University of Barcelona) you will find from the traditional tales we all remember from our childhood to the latest stories. They also organize indoors weekend activities, to convert your visit to the store into an unforgettable experience. Another of our recommendations is the bookshop Fabre. Located in Passeig de Gràcia, you will find in addition wood toys and puppets, to make of your child the hero of the story. They have traditional and modern books in three languages: Catalan, Spanish & German. And our last recommendation to find the best children’s books is Abracadabra. Located near the Santa Caterina Market, you will be surprised of the amount of books available, not only for kids but also for adults. They have books in up to 6 different languages a part from Catalan & Spanish. Here you will also find wood toys and puppets and there is also a calendar with weekly activities for the whole family.

If you prefer books with fewer words and more pictures, you have to go to Norma Cómics (Passeig St Joan, 9): a two-floor store exclusively selling comics, manga and graphic novels. From the latest news to classic editions, whatever you are looking for you will find it here. Another of the main comic stores in Barcelona is Continuarà (Via Laietana, 29).

For those of us within a budget but a longing for books, we highly recommend you Re-read. They have several stores in Barcelona and they have started to expand nationwide. You will find a huge variety of perfectly preserved books, in different styles and languages.
